Two sentry boxes belonging to the Cañaote gang were discovered and destroyed in the sector of the same name in the municipality of Guaicaipuro (Los Teques) in the state of Miranda, according to military sources.
The structures were used as observation points by the members of the aforementioned group, which represents a cell of the criminal organization founded by Carlos Enrique Gómez Rodríguez, alias El Conejo. This criminal is allegedly found in a shell in a farm in the Santos Michelena municipality (Las Tejerías) in the state of Aragua.
The sentry boxes were detected by troops assigned to the Urban Security Detachment (Desur) of the Bolivarian National Guard based in the Mirandina capital. Upon arriving at the site, the soldiers had a confrontation with the members of the Cañaote group, who then fled.
At the site, Rafael Carrillo Carballo was captured, who was traveling on a United Motors Max 150 motorcycle, license plate AK5X55A. The subject was seized 23 cartridges 7.62 × 39 mm for rifles; seven 9mm cartridges, a BF-888S portable radio and its four table chargers.
The Cañaote group was in charge of the Los Teques-Las Tejerías highway for purely criminal operations and territorial control.
Alias El Conejo has been on the run since last Saturday, February 5, when the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro II operation began, aimed at dismantling his group that had been captured by Colombian drug cartels to establish a safe drug trafficking route in the central region of the country.
