The Ministry of Public Security, proceeded this Thursday with the third ceremony of destruction of 2,014 firearms, ammunition and suppliers in the year 2022, seized in different operational actions of the Public Force.
This is the twentieth ceremony of this nature that has been held since President Laurentino Cortizo assumed the presidency of the Republic on July 1, 2019.
At the event, which was attended by the charge d’affaires of the European Union in Panama, Adolfo Campos, the representative of the Organization of American States, Rubén Ferje, the directors of the security forces, the governor of the province of Panama , Carla García, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Jorge Luis Almengor, 891 pistols, 577 revolvers, 259 rifles, 181 shotguns, 62 rifles, 25 pellet guns, 12 sub-machine guns, 5 nipples and two carbines were destroyed.
The Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, indicated that with this new weapons destruction ceremony, weapons that were used for criminal actions that left numerous Panamanian families in mourning and pain are forever removed from circulation.
He reiterated the work of the units of the security forces, who maintain a firm commitment to prosecute crime through actions that lead to the confiscation of these illegal weapons, protecting the lives and property of citizens.
A total of 19,319 firearms have been destroyed during the Cortizo Cohen administration, from July 1, 2019, to date.
