Other years, on this date, discarding the pandemic, literally, the New Barrio Lindo Fair exploded with people.

This 2022, despite attempts to reactivate it, on a tour of EL DEBER, the corridors were more or less clear, an unusual scenario a week after Christmas Eve.

Roxana Escóbar has a position in the most exclusive clothing sector, where the 2 de Octubre commercial is located. He said that he has felt that the sale is “more suffered” than in other times. She does not believe that it is the product of unemployment due to the census, nor of the departure of the merchants known as ‘mañaneros’, but that it has to do with an economic reality.

“There is an influx of people, but you can see that they are more cautious when it comes to spending. They look for the most economical, ‘versatile’ garments, that they can wear on Christmas Eve and also afterwards, modifying the accessories”, she recounted.

According to her, it is very evident that the majority is looking for offers, promotions and everything that has to do with lower prices. “I think people are more ‘tinder’, or more cautious. We are suffering to sell, everyone is more strict when it comes to price ”, she explained.

Patricia Ribera sells soft drinks at this fair. She acknowledges that sales in general have dropped, but in her sector, thanks to the heat, the situation is different.

“To all of us who are part of the beverage chain, call yourself bottlers, soft drink merchants, or ice distributors, etc., we are doing very well with this intense heat, since what people are looking for the most is liquid. For me the sale is high, ”she celebrated.

Yesterday, the merchants known as the ‘morning people’ made no attempt to settle on Cumavi avenue and the fourth ring.

It was denounced that they broke the padlock and that they could not be installed due to the presence of more wagons. the leader of the ‘mañaneros’, René Troncoso, denied that version, assuring that they had not gone to the place until ten in the morning.

These vendors appeared around the Copacabana Shopping Center, near the Barrio Lindo Fair. According to one of them, it was with the permission of the Copacabana board of directors, in coordination with the ‘mañaneros’ board of directors.

“We know it’s private, but they told us that those from Copacabana authorized it, that’s why we settled in the corridors, but since there are more than 2,000 of us, we didn’t go in, and that’s why others settled outside,” he said.

The municipal director of Public Spaces, Manfredo Borda, assured that they will continue to control that they do not negotiate with the spaces of the city, while the leadership of the Fair called on the ‘morning people’ to formalize their activities.
