The environmental group “Defendamos Chiloé” denounced the killing of sharks that circulated through the Chiloé Archipelago, particularly in Queilen, Los Lagos Region. The defendants, according to the complainants, tied them by the tail and then stoned them in the skull.
The incident was denounced through the social network Twitter, where the group described it as “unacceptable” and called on the authorities to take legal action. “We believe that it is time to make a direct call to the national authorities of the Ministry of the Environment, to the regional authorities, to the municipalities, to get involved in creating a work group to protect our wild, marine and terrestrial fauna. ”, said Juan Carlos Viveros, coordinator of the group to BioBioChile.
The Environment Department of the Los Lagos region, Carola Iturriaga, regretted the event and added that they are working on the law for nature, which if approved would create an institution to protect wildlife.
For its part, the Navy indicated that they have not received formal complaints about the incident, despite the fact that the records have circulated widely on social networks. Even from the same institution they tried to communicate with Sernapesca to cross information, however, they would not have received complaints there either.
