In recent days, the Executive Branch urged public offices to “strengthen non-pharmacological measures” to prevent Covid-19 infections in the face of a significant increase in cases throughout the country and, eventually, make use of teleworking for a period of 30 days.
However, in the last hours, the statistics and census workers denounced the INE Directorate for “anti-union” attitudes and demanded “real negotiation”.
“At the INE they force us to play ‘Covid stain’. Despite the fact that the Civil Service Office recommended teleworking, the INE Directorate refuses to enable it, exposing the workers,” the union denounced.
Civil or criminal actions
“Who takes charge if a worker gets sick? Who is in charge of care in homes with the sick if teleworking is not enabled for those who care for it?”, questioned the unionized officials.
Through a statement, they indicated that “with sick workers, those who remain working are also recharged, and that delays the output of INE products and their quality.”
“Will they be held accountable? We already know not. In the previous wave of the pandemic, they ordered people to go out to work on the street without occupational health and safety protocols. The Directorate of the INE does not take care of the workers. It does not respect the union organization or rights. Is that the innovation of this Directorate? Is this how quality public statistics are produced?” asked the union.
The association will hold the INE Directorate responsible for any event that occurs, reserving the rights to take civil or criminal actions that correspond to its inaction.
