The program Fourth power denounced this Sunday that the Minister of Culture, Betssy Chavez“sponsored” contracts that favored Antonio Sotelo in the public sector.
As detailed in the program, Antonio Sotelo has known Betssy Chávez since the last electoral campaign when, as secretary of representatives, he supported Peru Libre. The trust between the two reached the point that he was appointed as representative of the Ministry of Labor before Senati on January 12, 2022 thanks to a ministerial resolution signed by the aforementioned minister.
In addition, Antonio Sotelo records three visits to Chávez’s “Office” when he was head of the Labor portfolio: on November 8, November 24 and December 13, 2021.
At another time, the Sunday newspaper of América Televisión indicates that, later, Antonio Sotelo went to work at Cofopri in Tacna where he received a visit from Minister Chávez with whom he took a photograph, which would be “a tremendous support for Sotelo because here they accuse him of colluding with a faction of leaders that collect quotas to traffic in the formalization of land”, according to the program.
Jorge Quevedo, then national head of Cofopri, recalls that Minister César Paniagua, head of Housing, already had a replacement for Sotelo in his sights, but given the complaints, he demanded that he be removed immediately.
Quevedo complied with firing Sotelo on a Saturday, but it was he who was fired the following day. “Someone who seems to have more decision-making power than Minister Paniagua punished him for his audacity,” says the report.
A few days after being fired, Antonio Sotelo returned through the front door to Cofopri-Tacna, through a resolution published in El Peruano.
In Tacna, the program reported that leaders have asked for guarantees for their lives after the hell that has befallen them for denouncing alleged charges by Sotelo and his relatives. Moreover, if they did not march in favor of Sotelo, they were fined.
Abel Sotelo is the son of Antonio Sotelo, the young man with whom Minister Chávez would have an extremely close relationship.
Another contract that the report highlights is that of Abel’s brother, Marco Antonio Sotelo, who was hired as an assistant in Betssy Chávez’s office with a salary of 2,500 soles per month.
