Committee denounces "dehumanizing" imprisonment conditions in Rodeo I

The NGO Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón indicated that for days they have observed “situations of punishment, suspension of visits, isolation and mistreatment of some of the detainees, including beatings, restriction of food and humiliating treatment” in the El Rodeo I prison.


The NGO Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón denounced this Saturday, November 8, the imposition of punishments, suspension of visits and isolation against some political prisoners held in the El Rodeo I prison, located in the state of Miranda.

According to complaints from family members, Indian the organization, for days they have confirmed “situations of punishment, suspension of visits, isolation and mistreatment towards some of the detainees, including beatings, restriction of food and humiliating treatment.”

Relatives of Captain Antonio Sequea, sentenced to 27 years in prison for Operation Gedeón, reported last week that he was “naked and handcuffed along with other companions” on the 4th floor of the prison.

Another of the people subjected to these punishments would be Henryberth Rivas, sentenced to 30 years for the “drone case,” according to denounced A World Without a Gag.

The NGO Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón highlighted that this situation generates “uncertainty and anguish” for all family members, which is why it made an urgent call to the authorities “to guarantee the physical integrity, life and dignity of all people deprived of liberty, and to stop all practices that could put their safety and rights at risk.”

“The life, integrity and dignity of each person must always be respected,” the NGO reaffirmed.

Until November 5, the NGO registered 1,069 political prisoners throughout the country, including 37 foreign citizens and 47 Venezuelans with dual nationality.
