They denounce illegal construction of roads, bridges and highways in Darién

A video is circulating on social networks where an improvised bridge is seen supposedly over the Chucunaque River in the province of Darién, it also shows a truck full of presumably illegal wood crossing the river.

The national organization dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources of Panama (ANCON) also denounced this fact in a statement where they assure that construction activities of roads, highways and bridges are being carried out without an Environmental Impact Study.

“We look with great concern that in the province of Darién, recognized worldwide for its biological value and high endemism, activities are being carried out to build roads, highways and bridges, without any Environmental Impact Study (EIA), putting biological diversity at risk. and the security of this region, which for many years has been protected thanks to its exuberant forests,” said ANCÓN.
