Several journalistic unions in Peru warned that reporter Stefanie Medina, a worker on the Willax Television program Contra Corriente, suffered cyberbullying and threats, after investigating the three Alianza Lima players who were reported for an alleged sexual violation in mid-January.

The Press and Society Institute (IPYS) issued a statement in which it indicated that Medina reported to the union on January 31 that he had been victim of “a violent campaign of harassment and threats through social networks” after it published investigations into complaints filed against Sergio Peña, Miguel Trauco and Carlos Zambrano.

As is known, Alianza Lima separated the three players after an Argentine woman denounced them for an alleged sexual rape committed on January 18 in Montevideo (Uruguay)during a concentration of the intimate group, a case that has caused a schism in the Peruvian group.

“The cyberattacks were mainly concentrated on social network They insult her, defame her and threaten to attack her and harm her.. Medina also received misogynistic comments such as ‘brainless woman’ in order to discredit it,” IPYS added.

Furthermore, EFE specified that on February 2, The content creator known as “Walo” broadcast the journalist’s personal phone number live and sent violent messages against Medina, threatening her of suffering consequences for “messing with Alianza Lima.”

Medina recorded the attacks with screenshots and requested personal guarantees from the District Suprefecture of the Lima district of San Miguel and this authority accepted the request considering that the evidence presented by the journalist constitutes a real threat to her physical and psychological safety.

“IPYS denounces and condemns this type of violence against Stefanie Medina, suffered as a consequence of her journalistic work revealing matters of high public interest,” he concluded.

In the same way, the National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP) published another statement to highlight that Medina “is the target of a violent campaign of harassment, insults and death threats through social networks with a markedly misogynistic and aggressive nature.”

“The National Association of Journalists of Peru considers any form of threat, harassment, exposure of personal data or incitement to violence against journalists unacceptable. The ANP categorically condemns these practices and warns that harassment and violence should not be normalized, they must be rejected and sanctioned,” indicated the union.

Meanwhile, the Lima College of Journalists also condemned the threats against the journalist, the leak of her data and stated that “the truth cannot be silenced through fear or coercion.”

He also urged the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police (PNP) to provide immediate security guarantees for Medina and asked the Public Ministry to initiate the relevant investigations to identify those responsible.
