MIAMI, United States. – The Democratic Trade Union Alternative of the Americas (ADS) denounced the recent arrest of independent Holguin trade unionists Ramón Zamora Rodríguez and his two sons, Yisán and Lisán Zamora Ricardo, for participating in a cacerolazo in their province.

The three activists, who belong to the Independent Trade Union Association of Cuba (ASIC)were under arrest at the Criminal and Police Instruction Center of the city of Holguín from October 5 to 8 last.

The national coordinator of the ASIC, Iván Hernández Castillo, told CubaNet that “the regime has systematically carried out arbitrary arrests, mistreatment and other forms of extortion and abuse against Ramón Rodríguez Zamora and his relatives, with the purpose of intimidating them and creating an atmosphere of fear around the family, an objective that have been able to achieve.”

In addition, the union leader assured that during the detention suffered by the family in early October, Zamora Rodríguez and her children “were subjected to abusive and repeated interrogations, sometimes in the middle of the night, and in which they were often asked about the organization [ASIC]”.

For her part, Zamora Rodríguez’s wife, Mailin Ricardo Góngora, was detained for a day and “to humiliate her, the soldiers made her undress in front of other women,” Hernández Carrillo said.

“So far this year, Ramón and his family have been the object of several arrests and unofficial summonses and permanent surveillance around his house,” the independent unionist also assured.

In a post published in the profile of Zamora Rodríguez on Facebook, it is indicated that the Holguin activist and his wife “were arrested [el 5 de octubre] at 12:14 pm by G2 agents (…) and they were taken to the torture center in Holguín”, the State Security unit, called Pedernales.

The publication also specifies that Zamora Rodríguez “was handcuffed and placed in a Criminalistics vehicle” and that “an entire military procession went to his home with a search warrant,” in which seven USB flash drives, disks and anti-Castro propaganda were seized, in addition of the cell phones of Ramón Zamora, Mailin Ricardo and Yisan Zamora.

After the search, Yisan Zamora was also taken to Pedernales, around 6:30 on October 5.

The three activists were accused of disturbing public order “because on the night of Tuesday the 4th they made a resounding cacerolazo in the middle of the street, during a blackout, and strongly demonstrated against the Castro regime.”

For her part, “Mailin Ricardo was released that same day around 8:29 pm and in total darkness,” for which “she was forced to travel the nearly nine kilometers from Pedernales to her home.”

The post also denounces that “Lisan Zamora was beaten and handcuffed with the so-called beads and thrown to the ground, where they kept him for about two hours for calling his father and brother to find out if they were there.”

Finally, the activists were released on Saturday the 8th around 3:00 pm, “while an officer was in charge of recording the entire exit process” of the three trade unionists.
