SANTIAGO. Pastor Pablo Ureña, who heads the Children for Hope Foundation in the Santa Lucía neighborhood of Cienfuegos, in the Santiago Oeste municipal district, denounced yesterday that the children there are used as drug mules, a sector where the Government launched last December the security plan Mi País Seguro.
Ureña revealed that when agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) carry out operations in that sector, minors are arrested. Last December, with the announcement of the security plan, 10 sectors here were intervened, including Cienfuegos in Santiago Oeste.
“What we are saying today (yesterday) and we want to be emphatic is that they are using children to move drugs, they are literally using them as mules and this is worrying, because when the DNCD it comes and does the supposed operations, what they take are children and there is no level of intelligence to detect that they are boys who are using it and this is not possible”, denounced the priest.
Pablo Ureña addressed the issue during a march on the occasion of the month of fight against child abuse, in which they demanded the completion of a children’s stay that has been under construction for three years.
“We are also against the proliferation of vaper businesses (electronic cigarettes), lotteries, that is, they are adding a whole destructive environment for our children, which is creating a lot of violence and this is really worrying,” he said.
