The National Commission for Internal Elections (CNEI) of the Cambio Democrático (CD) party denounced before the National Director of Electoral Organization (DNOE) of the Electoral Tribunal (TE), Osman Valdés, a series of irregularities registered throughout the internal electoral process that carries out CD since 7:00 am that the polls opened throughout the country.
From polling stations that did not open on time, impediment to freely access the voting centers, and the entry of people from another party in perimeters where CD carries out its internal process, are some of the complaints captured by the CNEI in a note sent to Valdes.
In the letter, the CNEI warned that it “views with great concern the events that have been taking place from the time the tables were set up until they opened at 7:00 a.m., which in some places did not occur at that time, even up to this time 11:45 am, there are voting centers that have not opened”.
The CD body pointed out that it has received complaints from campaign groups related to one or the other payroll in the sense that they are being prevented from free access to voting centers and other structures are allowed access without any restriction. Regarding the issue of the failure to open the polling stations on time, the CNEI indicated that it is currently meeting in permanent session to issue a resolution in a timely manner.
Regarding the access of the different campaign structures to the voting centers, the CNEI demanded that these actions cease and that all party members be allowed free and democratic access, and that the National Police (PN) be under the orders of the TE and “not at the orders of local authorities or national deputies, which is obviously turning them into a coercive force against defined campaign structures that are participating in this election.”
“Another of the violations is the non-compliance with Resolution CNEI/019/23, of March 13, 2023, published in Bulletin No. 5299-B of March 16, 2023, where the participation and entry of people who do not They are members of the Cambio Democrático party less than 50 meters from the voting centers, a situation that results in provocations and that can cause at some point physical and verbal confrontations that notably tarnish the internal process of our party”, stated the CD Commission .
Regarding this last point, of non-compliance with Resolution CNEI/019/23, the CNEI demanded that the Electoral Delegates of the TE and the PN comply with the provisions of said resolution.
The letter sent to the National Director of Electoral Organization of the TE, was signed by the members of the CNEI, which is chaired by Ovigildo Herrera.
