Relatives of the political scientist and digital portal director Cut PointNicmer Evans, They warned that he has been arbitrarily deprived of liberty for 15 days, without so far being officially informed of the charges against him. Evans is being held in El Helicoide, facilities of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), in the city of Caracas.
Those close to the communicator also pointed out that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) “has admitted precautionary measures in favor of Evans,” a decision that, they affirm, reinforces the demand for minimum guarantees by the State.
“The international support of the IACHR is a crucial step. We will not rest until Nicmer Evans and the 902 political prisoners are free. The peace of Venezuela requires respect for human rights,” they expressed through different messages broadcast on social networks.
In that sense, they demanded that “the Venezuelan State clearly establish the facts, time and manner of the alleged crime of which it is accused,” as well as “that the circumstances of time, place and manner of its imputation be established.”
About his arrest
Evans was detained on December 13 by Sebin officials, who took him from his residence in Caracas under the pretext of an “interview.” Since then, he has been held at the headquarters of El Helicoide, without formal charges having been filed against him.
The detention has been widely condemned by international organizations, who described it as arbitrary and part of a systematic pattern of repression against critical voices and opponents of the government of Nicolás Maduro.
