Havana, Cuba.- To the Cuban political prisoner Ramón (Moncho) Pérez Condesentenced to 12 years of deprivation of liberty for the alleged crime of enemy propaganda, the authorities of the Prison of Maximum Combined Security of the East denied him for the second time the promotion of the regime of minimum severity or minimum camp.
According to Guillermo Duarte Conde, brother of Monchothe prison authorities informed him that he has to wait until April of next year to know if they approve of the change.
The activist has been in prison for almost four years and must extinguish his sanction, without reduction, in June 2033; Although the arrival to the minimum of permanence established for the analysis of any type of promotion is not sufficient condition for a favorable decision, according to the regulations of the Cuban Penitentiary System in its article 54.
The inmates are also checking some requirements such as their behavior during the fulfillment of their sanction, “the minimums of permanence established, the personal characteristics and the criminal record.”
Duarte Conde recalled that his brother has been physically and psychologically mistreated during his prison stay. The political prisoner has been hit by the guards of the east combinedand taken to punishment cells for being frontal with the prison officials and for denouncing the living conditions there.
The activist was sentenced to jail for making “directly in which he stimulated the physical presence of citizens to pronounce against the State,” according to his sentence act, issued by the Chamber of Crimes against State Security.
Likewise, the document argues that live broadcasts had “counterrevolutionary content, incitement to demonstration, to the overthrow of the socialist state” and were “against the rights of other citizens.”
Moncho Pérez was arrested at the end of June 2021. In that same year, regime agents offered him a change of measure if he accepted “collaborating” with state security but he rejected the proposal. The opponent corresponds to probation in January 2027.
