The old Control Tower of Jorge Newbery Airportin the northern area of the city of Buenos Aires, was demolished as part of another stage of the air station remodeling works, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport and which, in this case, will require an investment of 550 million pesos, informed sources of that portfolio.
After inaugurating the new runway and terminal, reconditioning the parking lot and incorporating technology, the ministry in charge of alexis warriorcontinues the works at the Jorge Newbery Airport with the demolition of the old control tower to expand the commercial platform and provide greater comfort to passengers.
The works are carried out through the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System (Orsna), and the demolition of the historic sector C will allow the commercial platform to be expanded, adding four new positions for aircraft and thus also guarantee greater safety and efficiency in the distribution of spaces to optimize operations.
These renovations are carried out in a context in which the Jorge Newbery Airport enhanced connectivity with the regionn, through enabling flights to and from the city of Bogotá, Colombiaand Lima, Peru, providing a new possibility of accessibility to all passengers who wish to travel to these destinations.
The Ministry of Transportation plans to continue fully improving accessibility mechanisms to the airport through the connection with bus lines that facilitate the transfer of all passengers, and reinforcing the necessary tools for the use of sustainable means of mobility.
The demolition work of the old control tower is complemented by the renovations that have already been inaugurated since the beginning of this management of the Ministry of Transportation, in coordination with the Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA SA), Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, and Orsna.
That is why the Jorge Newbery Airport will also expand the international passenger terminal in 800 square meters to duplicate operations.
The runway has already been extended to 590 meters longer and 20 meters wider, which increased the operational capacity of the airport and operational safety. In terms of technology, the installation of the new beacon system was carried out, which managed to operate in previously restricted weather conditions, avoiding diversions, cancellations and delays.
Finally, the Jorge Newbery Airport already has a new underground parking lot with a capacity for 624 parking spaces with spaces for reduced mobility and pregnant women, and distributed over two levels, which in turn are connected by elevators.
