They demand information from political prisoners on hunger strike

The bell Be human demanded from the regime, of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, information on the state of health of more than twenty political prisoners who are on a hunger strike in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Chipote” and in the National Penitentiary System (SPN), known as “La Modelo”. Also, that their relatives visit them to verify their situation.

“To this day, there is still no information on the state of health of political prisoners who are on hunger strike. We demand a #StopTorture in #Nicaragua, and we demand urgent visits for their relatives. Let us remember that there are still people in El Chipote and La Modelo on a hunger strike, demanding that their human rights be fulfilled and respected. Their lives are still in danger!” the organization wrote on social media.

More than 20 political prisoners have been on an indefinite hunger strike for 11 days in the cells of La Modelo, in Tipitapa, since last September 26. Prisoners of conscience demand their release and respect for their human rights from Daniel Ortega’s regime.

Tellez in prison has lost more than 20 pounds in weight and about 15% of his body mass. She demands that the isolation cease, that she be able to have access to reading material and that she be allowed to sign a power of attorney so that her family can withdraw her retirement pension. Reyes demands that they allow her to receive a visit from her two daughters, three and five years old, whom she has not been able to see for more than a year since she has been in prison.

Miguel Mendoza has lost more than 30 pounds in prison. He demands that they allow him to see and communicate with his eight-year-old daughter, Alejandra, whom he has not seen since Ortega made him one of his more than 200 political prisoners. Larios is on a hunger strike in solidarity with Mendoza, who is his cellmate and demands specialized medical care and better nutrition.

The political prisoners from “La Modelo” denounce that they are being searched, their food is thrown away and they have also been beaten and tortured inside the cells, violating their fundamental rights. The group of incarcerated denounces the prison director Venancio Alaniz and Luis Mercado, who is the head of searches for the “degrading” situations against them.

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo keeps more than 205 political prisoners in captivity in different prisons in the country, according to the Mechanisms for the Recognition of Political Prisoners in his August report. In that confinement they are subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment that has severely affected their health and physical condition, their relatives and human rights organizations repeatedly denounced.
