The Nicaragua Coalition denounced through its social networks the systematic increase in murders by armed settlers against indigenous communities of the Mayagna Sauni As territory in the North Caribbean of Nicaragua.
According to the report of the organizations that make up the Coalition, at least five people were killed, after strong attacks between March 6 and 11.

In addition to the crimes committed, the armed attack by settlers led to the burning of houses and the kidnapping of indigenous community members, including Miskitu minors, who have already been released.
Faced with these crimes, families from indigenous communities —according to the Nicaraguan Fighting Coalition— have been forced to move in order to save their lives, “those who need support in the face of a lack of basic needs such as food, clothing, and health,” said the alliance. of organizations.
The defender of the environment and human rights of the indigenous communities of Nicaragua Amaru Ruiz said to Article 66 that more than 80 indigenous families are displaced or refugees in the Musawas community.
Following the increase in violent attacks on indigenous peoples and in the face of constant complaints that the State of Nicaragua is not taking any concrete action to stop these actions, the Coalition alerted the international community of the serious risk faced by the indigenous communities of Musawas, Wilú and Suniwas, “who are fleeing violence despite having #Precautionary measures of the #IACHR and that they continue in total helplessness».

Alert situation in indigenous communities
Ruiz, who is also president of the Fundación del Río, affirmed that there is currently an alert situation, because in addition to the murder of the five people, there are another equal number of wounded from two different communities.
“This was the result of the massacre and burning of at least 16 homes in the Wilú community,” said Ruiz, who also reported that yesterday, Monday, March 13, the five murdered indigenous people were buried and that they are still in the hospital. part of the wounded
He added that these actions are due to the repercussions of the increase in violence in the Mayagna Sauni As territory and within the core zone of the Bosawás biosphere reserve.
