Tropical storm Julia, which entered Nicaragua as a category one hurricane, continues to weaken as it passes through the national territory. The authorities of the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter), according to their recent report, indicated that the phenomenon would be leaving the country and entering the waters of the Pacific Ocean in the early hours of this Sunday night.
The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, prior to the departure of Julia, dsecreted red alert for the entire national territory, leaving without effect the yellow alert that was imposed on October 8, prior to the impact of the phenomenon.
In the communiqué 004-2022, “Declaration of Red Alert”, Sinapred and the mayor’s offices are empowered to take the necessary measures to attend to the affected population, they are also ordered to execute the response plans in each of their territories, maintain sessions and permanent communication, put into practice the means of search, rescue and rescue of the affected population, prepare the personnel of the institutions for tasks that imply the contingency plans, and guarantee the availability of the resources of public and private institutions to attend the emergency.
Julia’s advance through the national territory
At noon, according to Ineter, Julia was traveling 35 kilometers from Managua, with sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour, maintaining its movement towards the east of the country with the same travel speed of 26 kilometers per hour, with which it has come moving from the South Caribbean.

According to the Red Alert, issued this afternoon by the Ortega-Murillo regime, the tropical storm is already in León, following the route and travel speeds detailed by Ineter.
More than 800 homes flooded by the passage of Julia
Guillermo González, director of the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (Sinapred), explained that part of the damage left so far by tropical storm Julia, in its transit through the national territory, includes flooding in more than 800 homes, fallen trees, flooding of rivers and lack of communication on roads and highways of some parts of the territory, in addition to affectations in the communication in the telephone network in some municipalities of the country and interruption of water and electric power services.
He explained that together with the different institutions they carried out a series of preparations that materialized in more than 600 shelters in the impact zone, in addition to 900 “solidarity houses”, which allowed the mobilization of people who lived in places of greater impact. of Julia.

He indicated that heMore than 13,000 Nicaraguans, representing more than 2,000 families, were mobilized in a way “both supported by government institutions and by their own efforts”.
He explained that “the vast majority of the people, more than 8,000, were sheltered in family homes, in solidarity houses, in addition, more than nine shelters and 24 shelters have been used, which have had almost 2,000 people in their midst so that they could face the first moments of the impact of the phenomenon”.
González assured that most of the people who were sheltered during the passage of Julia, especially in the Caribbean of Nicaragua, have been returning to their homes as security conditions allow.
Damage to schools and hospitals
The vice president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, also detailed, in a report presented at noon in official media, that the different government institutions have informed her about damage to infrastructure, power outages, areas cut off due to river floods and falling trees.
Murillo stated that Some 164,000 families across the country were, as of noon, affected by the interruption of the electricity service.
Also, he indicated that 58,000 families across the country also “are affected by drinking water services basically because the distribution of the service works with energy”.
The spokeswoman for the Sandinista regime also reported that at least 12 schools, according to the report she received from the Ministry of Education, have minor damages, related to roof landslides and falling trees.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) informed Murillo that They have only treated three injured people, in stable conditions, related to Julia’s step. In addition, they indicated that they have damage to the roofs, windows, and doors of the Bluefields, Karawala, Sandy Bay, Matiguás, and Walpa-Kara health units.
Murillo pointed out that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure did not report major damages, only traffic interruptions due to falling trees or flooding of rivers.
Rising rivers, currents and floods
Citizen networks reported through social networks river floods, currents and floods in San Benito, Santo Domingo, Juigalpa, La Libertad, Teustepe, San Juan del Sur, Nandaime, Tipitapa, Dipilto, Acoyapa, Siuna, Waslala, Tola, San Marcos, Puerto Cabezas, Bilwi and Muelle de los Bueyes.
The Ineter explained that, until noon this Sunday, they had registered three overflowing rivers and another fifteen rising in level, which in the next few hours could reach levels considered as overflows.
The overflowing rivers, according to the Ineter report, are: the San Juan River in Las Flores, with a level of 3.30 meters; Rama river in San Jerónimo, level 12 meters; and Rama river in Valentín, also with 12 meters.

Among the fifteen rivers that show an increase in their flow are: Wawa River in Wawabum, San Juan River in Boca San Carlos, Escondido River in Rama, Wawa River in Auas Tigni, Mico River in Muelle de los Bueyes, Jícaro River in Mataguineo and Likus river in Sisin.
Also the Prinzapolka River in Alamikamba, the Coco River in Guanás II, the Grande de Matagalpa River in La Cruz, the Frio River in La Esperanza, the Coco River in Wiwilí, the Siquia River in Salto Grande, the Coco River in Los Lirios, and the Jícaro River in Jícaro.

Classes suspended throughout Nicaragua
The authorities of the Ministry of Education (Mined) reported, through a statement, this Monday, October 10, classes were suspended for all public and private schools throughout the country, in consistency with the declaration of Red Alert issued by the regime. Ortega-Murillo.

Hours before the Mined statement and given the effects caused by Julia in the different municipalities of the country, the authorities of the Central American University informed their student community, via email, that face-to-face classes were suspended on Monday, October 10 .
“All face-to-face classes scheduled on our campus tomorrow, Monday, October 10, for all levels, are suspended,” reads part of the message sent by the UCA to its students.
The La Salle-Managua Pedagogical Institute and the Cristo Rey-Managua School also reported, through a statement released on their social networks, that they suspended classes for this October 10 in all its modalities, as a “precaution against events recent weather” and for “the safety and security of our students and staff.”
