They declare a person not pleasant to Bolivian ambassador

The Chamber of Deputies declared Mario Cronembold Aponte, Bolivian ambassador to our country, “persona no grata”. This, after a video on TikTok where the diplomat makes hilarious allusions to the Guaraní language.

On October 27, Mario Cronembold Aponte, Bolivian ambassador to our country, published a video on the social network TikTok where he talks about the changes in his voice for taking the tereré. While the diplomat posted the video with a humorous sense, several social media users were outraged by the post.

The malaise reached the Chamber of Deputies, where they approved, in ordinary session on Wednesday, declaring the diplomat as a person not welcome.

The request was made by deputy Walter Harms (ANR-Itapúa), president of the Foreign Relations Commission. The parliamentarian argued that the situation is dishonorable towards our culture and therefore towards the Paraguayan people. For this reason, he urged his colleagues to demonstrate repudiating the behavior of the Bolivian ambassador.

Harms showcased the TikTok video to the plenary session. He described the expressions as “denigrating towards the cultural values of the country.”

“I believe that this conduct is not consistent with the behavior that a diplomat, representative of a brother country, must have, which offends and offends, not only the cultural values rooted in the Paraguayan people, but also emits in some way a subliminal message in against our native language ”, he argued.

YELLOW
Celeste Amarilla, national deputy (PLRA-Central), echoed the expressions of her colleague. He reaffirmed the criticism of the diplomat calling him ignorant.
“If I had the ignorance, which the Bolivian man has, I would be making fun of the cholas with little hats and their songs; but since I am not ignorant and I recognize the difference of people, customs and languages, I do not do it, “he said.

The document approved by the deputies, repudiates the expressions of Mario Cronembold Aponte, for denigrating cultural values and offending the native language of the Paraguayan people. In addition, he is declared a person not pleasant for the Republic of Paraguay.

REPERCUSSION
Bolivian media outlets gave wide prominence to the pronouncement of the Chamber of Deputies. Los Tiempos newspaper published the article titled; “The Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay declares Mario Cronenbold person unwelcome.” The newspaper La Razón, for its part, published; “The Plenary of Deputies of Paraguay declares Ambassador Cronembold a person not pleasant.”

It should be remembered that, in La Paz, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry summoned the representative to ask for explanations about the incident. “In this specific case, a wake-up call has been made to the ambassador,” Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta said last week.

Cronembold was defeated in the subnational elections of March this year, when he was a candidate for the Santa Cruz Governor’s Office. He was later appointed ambassador to Paraguay on July 29. But he settled in Asunción, just in October.

The diplomat deleted the video a day later, following criticism.
