He said that as minister, Ceara Hattón is obliged to express his opinions on all environmental issues, based on the reports of his technicians, without ever disassociating himself from them.

Carvajal referred to the statements issued by the official during a meeting with community leaders from the Pueblo Viejo community, who asked him about the health effects caused by the barges.

“I don’t know about the diseases or consequences of a barge. I don’t know about that. I don’t talk about what I don’t know. I am an economist and I talk about economics”, she said during the activity.

Geologist Luis de León considers that the official “wanted to be honest about the complexity of the barge issue and about the multiple environmental studies required, but people have been a bit annoyed.”

“He wanted to say that on the subject of the barge to produce electricity, he does not know what its impacts could be on air quality, on the quality of coastal waters and on the health of the neighbors, because it was argued at that meeting that the Ministry of Environment had given its authorization for the installation of the barge”, explained the scientist.
