MIAMI, United States. – A fire of “small proportions” reported this afternoon in the diesel pump of the Matanzas Fuel Trading Company was controlled “in a few minutes”, according to a note broadcast by the local channel TV Yumurí.
“The start of the fire was controlled in a few minutes, with the dock security system and the support of firefighters from the city of Yumurina,” according to statements by Lieutenant Colonel William González Hernández, head of the Civil Defense of the Military Region of Matanzas.
According to the military, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
Official media journalist Pedro Rizo Martinez accurate that andhe fire of “small proportions” took place in the dock area of the Matanzas Fuel Trading Company. “It was at the pump of object 104 in the area (…) where a diesel pump was operating at 6:40 in the afternoon,” he explained.
“The emergency system and the fire brigade were activated with the use of water and foam and [el incendio no] spread. (…) The systems were closed and they are evaluating possible damages and the causes of the event, according to Riger Rodríguez Cubels, director of the company,” added Rizo Martínez.
Shortly before 8:00 p.m., TV Yumurí Indian that smoke was no longer visible over the bay of Matanzas.

According to statements by that official, the incident “did not compromise the so-called fuel base,” which already burned in August 2022, giving rise to the worst industrial catastrophe in the history of Cuba.
The fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base left a balance of 146 people were injured and 17 died, including 14 firefighters whose bodies were impossible to identify.
