They control fire in Santiago de Cuba. Left no human harm

A fire that occurred this Wednesday in a house near Parque Céspedes, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cubawas controlled by members of the Fire Department of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint). No human damage was caused, official media on the island report

Major Luis Romero, head of the Provincial Rescue and Salvage Command, explained that the spontaneous explosion of an electric motorcycle caused the incident, which affected a large part of the wooden roof of one of the houses located on San Basilio street, corner to San Félix, according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The officer explained that the fire started in the living room of the house and immediately spread to the false ceiling, but they were able to focus it in time. In less than three hours they completed their cooling and debris collection, mandatory tasks to reduce the concentration of smoke.

After assessing the damage caused by the firethe Municipal Assembly of People’s Power will provide differentiated attention to this family, made up of three people -including a child-, with the purpose of solving their needs in the shortest time, said Georbelis Iznaga, deputy mayor of the provincial capital, quoted by the ACN.

The source refers that thanks to the solidarity of the neighbors and neighboring workplaces, the assets of the inhabitants of the houses closest to the scene of the incident could be evacuated, even at the risk of losing their belongings.

In the middle of December last another fire broke out on San Carlos street, also very close to Parque Céspedes, affecting nine homes in the area, but without causing fatalities. Meanwhile, the explosion of electric motorcycles at the moment their batteries receive charge has already unleashed several accidents, and in some cases deaths have been reported.

In April of last year, in the province of Sancti Spíritus, such an incident caused the death of a woman and left two minors seriously injured, one of whom later died.

According official figures available, between 2017 and 2020 electric motorcycles were among the main causes of fires in Cuba. Half of the accidents occurred at night and 107 were caused by leaving the vehicle charging without supervision.

In that period, the highest figure occurred in 2019, with 221 explosions, and until October 7, 2020, 485 were registered. Havana, with 186, was the province that accumulated the most cases.
