All actions to ensure stability, promote economic growth and advance important social goals, in our region and across the nation, run up against the criminality of the TPLF, said Party Secretary General Gidena Medhin.
Our organization, he commented, condemns the damage it inflicts on the states of Tigray, Amhara and Afar in particular, and holds it responsible for most of the social and economic challenges faced by the people of Tigray in the last 47 years.
As he stated at a press conference, “Tigriños still languish under the tyranny of the group, which uses tactics to confuse citizens, forces young people to take up arms and destroys families.”
This board, therefore, must be erased from the face of Ethiopia to guarantee peace, stability and the development of the country and the region in particular, he stressed.
It is the TPLF, he pointed out, that “causes ruin in our territory by deliberately turning the corridor of humanitarian assistance in the Afar region into a battlefield.”
Medhin accused the Front of diverting humanitarian assistance to members of his army and sympathizers, and creating conditions to lead the regional state to a serious humanitarian catastrophe.
Likewise, he asked him to “release the 1,150 trucks that he retains, to facilitate the arrival of food and basic necessities to those affected by the war that began in Tigray.”
Tigray has been experiencing since November 2020 the war of the federal army against the TPLF, declared a terrorist by Parliament and accused of violating human rights, among many other crimes.
After several turning points, last June the authorities decreed an armistice, but the organization rejected it and extended its criminality to Afar and Amhara.
During the last six months, Ethiopia received significant support for Tigray, but federal and regional authorities repeatedly denounced actions by the insurgent group to hinder humanitarian efforts.
They also demand for Afar and Amhara the same collaboration that many countries and international organizations seek for Tigray, the seat of the TPLF, the main force of the former Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front, a ruling coalition for almost three decades and dissolved in 2019.
