They confirm the death of a police officer and an inmate after shooting in La Joya that involved a machine gun

Two deaths, is the balance confirmed, so far, by the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP), after a confrontation between rival gangs in the La Joya and La Nueva Joya prisons.

According to reports, a police unit and a prisoner died. Additionally, there are two police units and a prisoner injured.

The Penitentiary System indicated that the State Security Estates and the Ministry of Government maintain control of the penitentiary centers.

They detailed that requisition operations are being maintained to remove firearms from circulation. Likewise, coordination is carried out with the Public Ministry to initiate investigations and establish responsibilities.

For security reasons, the Penitentiary System suspended family visits to the La Joya Penitentiary Complex until second order.
