MADRID, Spain.- Feminist platforms and the media Radio Television Martí confirmed the murder of the Cuban Yunia Guerra Azahares. The 31-year-old victim lived in the province of Guantánamo.
The crime occurred on March 11 when Yunia went to the house of her ex-partner, in the Guantanamo town of Palenque Arriba, Yateras, accompanied by her 12-year-old daughter, the information specifies.
Daigils Guilarte, aunt of the victim, explained to Radio Television Martí that on the day of the crime, when mother and daughter were at the house of Yunia Guerra’s ex-partner, the girl went outside.
“She (the girl) hears for a moment that her mother is calling her and when the girl runs, the man was on top of her mother with a knife to her neck. The girl threw herself on top of the man saying that she should not kill her mother, that she should not kill her mother, when he turns and pushes her and says, get off, “she recounted.
Daigils Guilarte also said that the girl went out to ask for help, but in the remote area, the houses are separated by kilometers.
On April 24, the YoSíTeCreo platform in Cuba had issued an alert about this femicide through its social networks, in search of more information about the case.
After confirming the murder of Yunia Guerra Azahares, YoSíTeCreo in Cuba shipment condolences to the surviving girl and other family members.
With this new case of sexist violence, the Alas Tensas Gender Observatory (OGAT) has recorded 27 femicides in Cuba so far in 2023.
Currently, in the 15 provinces of the country, at least one femicide has been reported this year.
Of the 27 women killed, 24 lost their lives at the hands of men they knew. In most cases the victimizers they had been or were a couple of the women they killed.
