Events of this type confirm the climate of growing concern in the country, where citizen complaints are becoming more frequent.

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba – After the dissemination of inaccurate details about an armed robbery that occurred on January 14 in the municipality of Santo Domingo, in Villa Clara, the daughter and niece of the two affected resorted to the social networks to clarify the facts. “I feel obliged to make this publication to clarify a news that is spreading throughout Facebook,” the young woman, identified as Elienay Estrada Trejo, began by saying.

In his personal profile he posted the detailed video in which he confirms that the events took place last Wednesday around ten at night on the outskirts of the house where his grandmother resides, located in front of the “House of the combatants.” The version initially released mentioned the assault and subsequent theft of a woman’s luggage, but the young woman clarified that the victims were her father and uncle.

“Yes, it was an armed robbery, yes there were guns, yes there were shots, it happened to two men, my father and my uncle,” he specified. “They came from Santa Clara in a tourist car that my uncle rented because we have a family situation, a sick person there.” According to Elienay, these days they had made several trips to the provincial capital to transport medicines and companions for their hospitalized relative.

Later he specified that that night two men were following them in another car: “When they get out in front of my grandmother’s house, these people get out of the car, point a gun at them and shoot in the air so that no one gets in… and they point them at them.” Elienay specifies that contrary to the first rumors about the events, it was not a case of luggage theft, although the assailants did steal a gold bracelet from her uncle, “and they took the car with all his documents inside: passport, residence, license…”.

Events of this type confirm the climate of growing concern in the country, where citizen reports of assaults, robberies and other violent episodes that are made public thanks to complaints on social networks are becoming more frequent. In one of the comments responding to her video, Elienay commented that they have not yet arrested the assailants and lamented: “I don’t have much hope that they will catch them either.”
