During the first epidemiological week of 2023, the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported 60 cases of dengue throughout the country.
The report highlights that these cases of dengue are broken down as follows: 51 cases without warning signs; 9 with warning signs; 0 cases of severe dengue and no deaths have been registered.
They also report that the Metropolitan Health Region registers the highest number with 14 positive cases; followed by San Miguelito with 10 cases; Bocas del Toro, with 9 cases; North Panama and Colon with 8 cases.
The authorities reiterate to the population, the measures to control the proliferation of mosquitoes and combat Aedes Aegypti breeding sites, both inside the house and outside.
• Malaria.-
Regarding malaria cases, the report highlights that, in the first two epidemiological weeks, 257 cases have been registered.
This disease is reported mostly in the Guna Yala region with 123 cases; Darien with 90 cases; and the Ngäbe Buglé region with 31 cases are the regions with the most confirmed cases to date.
To counteract it, a comprehensive work plan is being carried out between the Health regions, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the community, through the Detection, Treatment, Investigation and Timely Response Strategy (DTIR).
• Leishmaniasis.-
In the first two epidemiological weeks of the year 2023, 18 cases have been confirmed in the country, with the provinces of Panama Oeste, Coclé and the Ngäbe Buglé region with three (3) cases being the regions with the most confirmed cases to date. Veraguas and Bocas del Toro with two (2) cases.
They report that to date, no cases of Zika and Chikungunya have been reported in the national territory.
The Minsa reiterates to the population to clean their surroundings and inside their homes, cover, eliminate containers with water to combat the breeding sites of mosquitoes that transmit these diseases.
