The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) condemned the murder of journalist Alejandro Gallegos León, committed in Tabasco, and called on the authorities to clarify it without omitting any line of investigation, highlighting his work as a communicator, finding those responsible and guaranteeing the access to truth and justice to both his family and his colleagues.
He noted that in order to guarantee the protection and integrity of Gallegos León’s family members, the CNDH requested the Mechanism for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists, attached to the Government, to consider granting precautionary measures. In addition, he asked the Tabasco prosecutor’s office and the state Government Secretariat to provide their support to the bereaved.
For the CNDH, it is essential to guarantee the protection of the exercise of freedom of expression which, in cases of attacks against journalists, requires carrying out investigations within a reasonable period of time, avoiding unjustified delays or obstructions.
