They condemn the “illegal dispossession” of the facilities of the Venancia Group by Ortega

The Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Nunca Más condemned the illegal dispossession of the facilities of the Venance Group by officials of the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), in agreement with agents of the Directorate of Special Police Operations (DOEP).

On the morning of this Wednesday, February 8, the feminist collective reportedly denounced the occupation of its facilities. The action came eight months after the cancellation of its legal status.

Faced with this new action by the Nicaraguan government, the organization recalled that Grupo Venancia had more than 30 years promoting
the rights of women and girls in Nicaragua, however “its legal personality was canceled eight months ago.”

For human rights defenders, the dispossession of the facilities of the feminist collective is part of the persecution of the Daniel Ortega regime “against organized civil society”, outlawing to date 3,188 non-governmental organizations.

«The Collective stands in solidarity and recognizes the work of the Venancia Group who, in the midst of attacks and the confiscation of their assets —prohibited by the Political Constitution of Nicaragua— have said that they will continue with their “commitment to a homeland free of violence in all its dimensions.” ”», said the Human Rights Collective.

In turn, they affirmed to “repudiate” and denounce the persecution of the Ortega dictatorship against women human rights defenders, as well as the massive confiscations through the cancellations of the legal personalities “of civil society organizations that promote human rights and democracy ».

The feminist organization has been working for 31 years in different areas of Nicaragua supporting urban and rural areas, as well as adult and youth populations.

For its part, the Venancia Group affirmed that although they were deprived of the premises, they continue with their “commitment to the defense of human rights in all their extension, nor to the ideal of a Nicaragua with justice, freedom and democracy, where working for the good common and defending rights is not a crime.

From 2018 to date, the Ortega regime, through its steamroller of deputies in the National Assembly and the Ministry of the Interior, has annihilated more than three thousand organizations that focused on supporting the most vulnerable populations in matters of health, nutrition , education, combating violence, among others.
