They condemn police and paramilitary repression against residents of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua

The Nunca Más Nicaragua Human Rights Collective condemned the repressive wave of police and parapolice against the population of the Caribbean Coast of the country, unleashed by the social protests where they denounced electoral fraud in the municipal votes of November 6, 2022.

“We demand that the State of Nicaragua cease repression against citizens who claim the right to truth, justice, reparation and non-repetition,” said the Costa Rica-based human rights organization.

Likewise, it demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners in Nicaragua. “The Collective (…) repudiates the police and parapolice repression on the Caribbean Coast where dozens of people have been attacked and persecuted, mainly indigenous and Afro-descendant youth.”

He also pointed out that the context of systematic repression and serious violations of human rights “continues arbitrary arrests and criminalization of various expressions of citizenship that demand freedom, truth, justice and democracy.”

The organization reiterates to the Ortega dictatorship to cease the repression against citizens and to allow visits to political prisoners held at the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, who have been incommunicado for 84 days.
