More than 44 tons of garbage were removed from the streets of the township of Río Abajo, where the “Cleaning up the Neighborhood” operation was carried out, finding everything from tires, furniture to disused wooden sideboards.
The Governor of Panama, Carla García, explained that these days are held in the 26 corregimientos and asked the community to cooperate with the cleanup of their communities.
Carlos Ábrego, Secretary General of the AAUD, explained that these pre-Christmas operations are carried out in order to collect the greatest amount of waste, at this time of greatest consumption and said that to date they have collected 44.27 tons in this township.
For her part, Maritza Villarreal, representative of the township of Río Abajo, urged the community to denounce the bad practices of some drivers from outside the township who deposit garbage outside the tanks.
The collection day of this Thursday, December 22, which took place in Villa Lorena, Villa Gabriela, streets 17, 18 El Porvenir and San Cristóbal, included washing tanks in areas of water tanks to keep the site clean and pedestrian bridges in Villa Lorena , Balboa and Escuela República de Haiti by car bomb of the Panama Fire Department. Additionally, the National Police was present to support security.
Parallel to the cleaning day, workers from the AAUD Fomento y Promoción a la Cultura de Aseo, delivered garbage bags for cars, at the intersection of Vía España and Vía Cincuentenario, at the height of El Balboa.
More than 100 cleaning workers, including collectors, ants, fumigators and grass cutters, plus two dump trucks, three packers, a backhoe and a car bomb were used for this operation.
The Cleaning Authority reported that for tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, the cleaning operation will move to the village of Las Mañanitas.
