They charge 16 alleged protesters who caused damage in the Caaguazú Police Station

The Public Ministry filed charges against 16 alleged protesters who days ago attacked police officers and caused damage to the local police station.

The fiscal agent Norma Salinas of the Zonal Unit of Caaguazú, formulated accusation against 16 people, who would be responsible in the commission of the punishable acts of Serious Coercion, Production of Common Risks, Disturbance of the Public Peace, Threat of Punishable Acts, Criminal Association and Damage to Built Works or Technical Work Means.

The defendants are Amado Cardozo Goiris (29), Claudia Jara (47), Adilio Monges Ojeda (21), Willian Manuel Lima Gavilán (19), César Andrés Méndez (26), Hilarión Cerviano Samudio Rivas (46), Alberto Ledesma Jara ( 52), Daniel Ortiz Benítez (37), Fredi Daniel Olazar Cañete (35), Cristian Marcelo Ibalo Benítez (26), Charla Antonio Collante (28), Nelson Daniel Galarza Mereles (26), Lucas Samuel Cáceres Orué (20) and Wilfrido Roberto Cantero Alvarez (30). Gustavo Javier González Maldonado and Cristian David Portillo Cabrera were also prosecuted specifically for Serious Coercion, Disturbance of the Public Peace, Threat of Punishable Acts and Criminal Association.

In the case of González Maldonado and Portillo Cabrera, last Wednesday, March 23, at the roundabout of Caaguazú, in the middle of a supposed demonstration, both would have attacked large vehicles and attacked people who were trying to circulate in the area. , inciting violence through slingshot attacks on other people’s cars. They were apprehended and a truck and a motorcycle were also seized.

Likewise, according to the records handled by the Public Ministry, on that day, the remaining 14 defendants, alleged peasant protesters, were surprised by police agents and personnel from the Special Operations Group (GEO), when they were blocking large vehicles, hindering the free traffic and burning roofs on the asphalt layer.

After said attack, the law enforcement officers descended in order to persuade the protesters, however the violent acts worsened and they had to go back to Police Station 24 Santa Isabel, where they were again attacked by those now indicted, who attacked with sticks, firecrackers, slingshots, homemade bombs, among other elements, also caused destruction of computer equipment, furniture and other materials in the police precinct and even left 6 National Police officers injured.

The representative of the Public Ministry requested the Court the precautionary measure of house arrest with sufficient real bail given the damage caused.
