Luis Fernando Siles was dismissed as governor of the El Abra prison (Cochabamba)after the death of an inmate, registered on Wednesday, and after a search in which white weapons, cell phones and controlled substances were found.
His place will be occupied by Richard Pacheco, as announced by the departmental director of the Penitentiary Regime, Estrella Rocha, who also anticipated a process against the now ex-authority.
Hundreds of Bolivian Police officers entered the prison compound this morning, as part of an operation. “Discipline has been relaxed in the prison and today we are resuming this aspect with the requisitionthe transfer of inmates and a new head in charge”, said the regional head of the institution of order, Erick Olguín.
Violent events and the escape of inmates occurred in that enclosure in recent weeks. The commander stressed that “today the new governor assumes and has a mission to ensure that the disciplinary issue is complied with”.
Two days ago a prisoner died stabbed in the neck and chest, inside his cell. In mid-September, another was doused with gasoline and set on fire.although he was saved from dying, he was left with serious injuries.
