Military personnel seized 25 panels of cocaine during a procedure carried out at the La Pedrera Citizen Assistance Point, Libertador municipality of Táchira state, according to a report published on the Instagram account of the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace.
The drug, which weighed 33 kilos 580 grams, was transported in a truck where they also carried a shipment of frozen strawberries, says the report, which adds that the inspection of the vehicle was carried out by officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) and the Regional Anti-Drug Intelligence Unit.
The two people who were in the truck were detained and are classified by the official entity as members of the Los Panchos gang, who were traveling from La Grita (Táchira) to Puerto La Cruz (Anzoátegui). The Public Ministry was notified of the procedure.
Also in Táchira, but in the vicinity of the Simón Bolívar International Bridge, which connects Colombia and Venezuela, the military detained a subject who was transporting a panel of marijuana inside his private parts.
Another similar arrest occurred in the El Mirador sector, San Cristóbal municipality, capital of Táchira, where a man was arrested from whom two panels of marijuana that he had hidden inside a koala were seized, according to a GNB report.
Maximum penalty
In another event, the Aragua Trial Court 1 decreed a sentence consisting of 30 years in prison for Alexander Villegas (38) and Eduardo Marín (36) for trafficking 11 grams with 300 milligrams of cocaine, the Public Ministry reported.
The incident was detected on February 6, 2024 in the San Vicente neighborhood, Casanova Godoy parish, Girardot municipality (Maracay), Aragua.
That day, officials from the Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistic Investigations Corps who were patrolling the area, saw several men and a 17-year-old teenager in a suspicious attitude, so they fled when they were told to stop. After a brief chase, they were caught up by the officials, who carried out a body inspection in which they found 75 cocaine wrappers hidden in their pants pockets, which yielded a total weight of 11 grams with 300 milligrams of the drug.
During the trial, representatives of the 33rd Prosecutor’s Office of the aforementioned jurisdiction ratified the accusation against the men for the crimes of illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances in the form of concealment, use of adolescents to commit crimes and conspiracy. They will serve their sentence at the Tocorón Penitentiary Center for New Men.
