Judith Pena | March 6, 2023

A major of the National Police
is being investigated by the Directorate of Professional Responsibility (DRP), after being detected trying to introduce prohibited items into the La Joya Penitentiary Center. Preliminarily it was learned that he tried to introduce 5 cell phones to the prison.

According to the Police, this detection was the result of the security strategies implemented in the La Joya Penitentiary Center, where, in addition to the technological equipment, the officer tried to bring cigarettes to the inmates.

After the investigation by the DRP, the older person will be placed under the orders of the Superior Disciplinary Board, which will determine the applicable sanction, which may include up to dismissal from office.

“The Institution reiterates that it maintains zero tolerance for acts of corruption that are committed by our units, regardless of rank or sex,” they stated.
