Four cemeteries in the districts of Santa Ana and El Chorrillo were fogged on Wednesday, October 19, by the Vector Control team, seeking to minimize mosquito breeding sites and the possible transmission of dengue.
This fogging and inspection was carried out in the El Niño, Extranjero, Herrera and Manuel Amador Guerrero cemeteries belonging to the districts of Santa Ana and El Chorrillo.
According to Evelio Gaona, regional head of Vector Control, the Metropolitan Health Region reports more than 1,500 cases of dengue and 97 confirmed cases of malaria, so fumigations are carried out every 15 days to prevent these diseases.
He said that in previous inspections of the cemeteries, breeding sites for Aedes Aeyipti larvae were found in some graves. “We are reinforcing the operations in the cemeteries that are most visited during these days in order to avoid the formation of breeding sites,” added Gaona.
The statistics of the Metropolitan region indicate that the corregimientos with the highest rate of dengue infestation are Betania, Las Garzas, Veracruz, Pedregal and 24 de Diciembre.
The regional health authorities reiterate to the population to avoid the formation of breeding sites and not to lower their guard, even if we are in the rainy season, they must verify the premises of their homes, gutters, eliminate containers, lids, bottles that accumulate water, deposit the rubbish in proper places.
