SANTO DOMINGO – In the penitentiary The victory the detection, diagnosis and treatment program for syphilis, HIV and hepatitis C has been carried out.
The information was offered by the general director of Prison and Correctional ServicesRoberto Hernández Basilio, and Grace Buttler, from the Genesis Foundation.
During their participation in the annual conference of the International Prison and Corrections Association (ICPA), which took place in Orlando, Florida, Hernández Basilio and Buttler explained that those incarcerated in La Victoria affected by the aforementioned diseases receive medical.
“Test & Treat + 3: Victory in La Victoria, the largest prison in the Caribbean” was the title of the intervention in which Hernández Basilio and Buttler explained about the experience of implementing a detection program within a prison system.
“With this project, which has the support and participation of the Ministry of Public Health and the National Council for HIV and AIDS (Conavihsida), the prison system has managed to put a stop to the chain of contagion and reduce the possibility of death from lack of treatment, since we have examined both those deprived of liberty and the staff and the detected cases have been incorporated into the medical care and treatment services,” Hernández expanded at the event on October 26.
The annual conference of the International Prison and Corrections Association (ICPA), organized by the Orlando Department of Corrections, brought together more than 400 prison service professionals from around the world this year.
This year was titled “Standing Beyond the Old Normal: Corrections After the Global Pandemic” and saw the participation of 200 speakers and more than 100 presentations in various sessions, plenaries, parallel workshops, and visits to correctional facilities.
