With environmental volunteers, technical and administrative staff from the Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE) in frank collaboration with the tour operators of the Boquete district, the first cleaning day was held at the top of the Barú volcano, Barú Volcano National Park (PNVB).
At the end of the activity, where 33 volunteers participated, 23 bags of solid waste were collected; which includes plastic containers, cans and tetrapack.
“ This year there is less waste left by visitors, the top is cleaner, but it is in the area of Los Fogones where the bad disposal still persists, so we ask for the collaboration of visitors to take what is generated here ” , exhorts Krislly Quintero, director of MiAMBIENTE.
All the bags were transferred to the Camiseta Control Post for their correct disposal.
Yaissel Carracedo’s, from Volcán Barú Jeep Tour 4×4, dedicated for more than ten years in the transfer of tourists, highlighted “ It is vitally important to keep the road and the highest point in the country free of contamination that negatively affects the ecosystem.”
For Roger Guerra, a volunteer and David resident, “ It must be important for all visitors to take their waste home, since the protected area must be preserved due to its ecosystem benefits.”
“ You have to be aware of cleaning, although not a large amount of waste was found, we urge you to continue caring and every time you come, bring your bag and take away your garbage ”, says Yanixza Araúz, a resident of Potrerillos.
It should be noted that conserving protected areas is everyone’s commitment and together we can ensure the preservation of a sustainable environment.
This protected area, according to statistics from the protected areas section of MIAMBIENTE, received 12,545 tourists last year.
MiAMBIENTE reiterates, once again to visitors, to take care of the signs and infrastructures, to avoid scratching or deteriorating them. It is forbidden to capture, harass, kill or injure wild animals in the same way the extraction of vegetation, collection is only allowed for scientific studies, with prior permission from the entity.
