Santo Domingo. – Officers of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) arrested a Mexican citizen identified as Efraín Sánchez Cabanillas, aka “bullet”, active member of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Sánchez Cabanillas was sought by US authorities under positions of traffic of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamines.
In its capture, there was at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province, when it tried to leave the country on a commercial flight, also participated in the DNCD agents, members of the Public Ministry, with the support of special agents of the Administration for drug control (DEA) and the United States Sheriff Service (US Marshals).
According to the investigation, the detainee is considered an objective of high interest for the United States justice. With 38 years of age, he faced an arrest warrant in the Massachusetts Judicial District, where he is accused of conspiring to distribute and own 400 grams or more of fentanyl, five kilograms of cocaine and 500 grams or more of methamphetamines.
The Dominican authorities acted in compliance with Law 285-04 on Migration, whose article 15 establishes that they will not be admitted in foreign national territory with criminal records or that they are fugitives of justice.
The Dominican Republic reaffirms its commitment to combat drug trafficking and transnational crime, guaranteeing the capture of fugitives that try to hide in the country.
The arrest and next installment of Sánchez Cabanillas is part of the strengthening of fugitive search operations, developed by the Dominican authorities with the support of allied countries in the fight against organized crime.
