The arrest took place in the La Ye district, in the municipality of Unión Panamericana, in the department of Chocó, after a Medellín judge handed down the sentence against him.
The events that led to the conviction occurred on August 4, 2021 in Medellín, when Palacios Palacios, in his capacity as an active police officer at that time, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, was involved in the murder of a gym trainer, who lived in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of the capital of Antioquia.
«A prosecutor from the Crimes Against Life Unit of the Medellín Section proved that on the day of the events, the then member of the Police was traveling as a grillman on a motorcycle driven by the coach. Shortly after, Palacios Palacios was seen driving the vehicle and wearing the helmet of the 26-year-old athlete,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
The same ex-policeman reported the disappearance of the gym trainer
Two days after the crime, on August 6, the same former police officer reported the disappearance of the coach, who was found dead in a wooded area near the Oriente Tunnel, with two gunshot wounds to the head.
The motorcycle used in the crime was recovered thanks to a location device, which made it possible to advance the investigation and carry out the capture of Palacios.
Although the first instance sentence was appealed by both the Prosecutor’s Office and the convicted man’s defense, the arrest was carried out to ensure that the former uniformed man complies with the sentence imposed by the court.
