The showman Martín Bossi continues to break his own records with the “Bossi Comedy Tour”, a show that began as a “reunion tour” and that in its last four consecutive sold-out performances summoned four thousand people in just one week, to celebrate together that “life is face-to-face” and that “they cannot digitize our hearts” even in a pandemic.

“These days are the days I want time to stop. Say good in this applause stop, because later comes a lot of suffering. Life is not this; this is very ephemeral and it is crazy to talk about a thousand tickets sold today in a theater that has already accompanied us in other works and to which I take the opportunity to congratulate for the support. This is a very big team”, he maintained in dialogue with Télam after “giving it all” at the Mar del Plata Theater of the Luro Avenue Multitheater complex.

His season is going so well that he added a function on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. to the original ones on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the same time.

Every night, Bossi goes on stage and thanks God for his return to the stage to do something “long-awaited” and before “an audience that is real” and melt the ice with a rock medley that hooks songs by Virus, Charly García and Soda Stereo, after a first formal introduction: “I’m Martín, I’m 47 years old. I am the son of Estela and Jorge. And I am convinced that there is no new normal. This is normal.”

With monologues about life in a pandemic, he generates complicity with his audience from the first minute with interventions on addiction to series and “sexting”, offering some vocal brushstrokes from his repertoire of imitations such as Pablo Escobar, Lionel Messi, Juan Román Riquelme , Alberto Fernández and Mauricio Macri, among many others.

Infallible for the round trip, he chooses some assistants from the front row and builds with them part of his comedy, like the “governor”, a woman who quickly understands the role play and gets carried away by the comedian: “Today is your night”, Bossi warns her, and then invites her to confess about virtual sex.

The musical tributes are part of the heart of the show and a personal brand of the artist, with which he reaffirms his devotion to singer-songwriters and the romantic ballad, while mocking the explosion of urban music and the “perversion” of some of his lyrics: “They don’t sing to the soul, neither to the eyes. They sing to a woman’s ass and not to her energy, “he says before breaking down one of Puerto Rican Bad Bunny’s hits and “updating” his favorite artists by recreating collaborations with trendy artists.

Télam: With this new work, “Bossi Comedy Tour”, in some way you left taking off the masks, the make-up and there is a pure Bossi on stage. How was this change to share much more about yourself on stage?

Martín Bossi: Yes, I think that when you’re younger you make a big deal out of it. And I don’t need to impose so much now, people already see everything I want them to see through me and I don’t need to underline or leave the stage. Little by little, I don’t know if it’s bad or good, I became a showman, which was what I wanted. And in Latin America there are few; it is a dying branch. And I went there, in a market where it’s hard to be a showman. You have to sing, dance, do comedy, play an instrument, sing with your voice or imitate others, make the audience sing. It’s difficult but it took me thirty years of study and today I’m here enjoying it.

T: In the work there are many allusions to recover contact and embrace and time in a pandemic.

MB: I am not the one to leave messages, but we share some questions. It’s not that I give orders, I give opinions. I think the phrase is “life is face-to-face, they can’t digitize our hearts”. And at a time when many people who can express themselves both in the media and in other media speak of death, we speak of life, and here is the result.

T: After the summer season ends in March, do you plan to come to Corrientes Street with “Bossi Comedy Tour”?

MB: Obviously we’re a bit surprised, because I have to do “Kinky Boots”, which I want to, but we also have a show that we don’t want to stop. We built this show as a reunion tour: it is a show that we think with Emilio Tamer, director and author, in the confinement stage. Later, we began to go to the provinces, it began to fill up and we saw what was happening. Because the theater can be filled in many ways; there are many works that fill up and after ten days you already forgot what it was about. And this is a show that remains, so we began to suspect. There were forty thousand people on the entire tour and we said “what if we take it to Mar del Plata?”. The show continues to grow and now, the truth is that it is about to reach Corrientes Street, because people wanted this.

T: What balance do you make of this theatrical season in Mar del Plata, which is just starting to pick up a few days ago for other shows?

MB: It is very difficult to answer because it is very uncomfortable. First, because I aim for the theater and I would like that, not only for all the plays, but for all the businesses in the country to do well. I am with the person who works, I am not with the one who dictates the rules of when and what time you work. I am with those who work carefully and preserving us. I know that there are works that are doing well and others that are doing badly, but it’s like everything in life. I would like the one who does badly to do super well. If I have to come out tenth in the collection, getting 900 people a day, I sign; but, well, I hope people go to the theater. I always say that you have to go see all the works, because there are many beautiful ones to see. Today it is my turn to say that this week we are breaking historical records in my theatrical life: we reached four thousand people in four performances. It’s crazy. I feel like running out in the rain and yelling “freedom!”
