MIAMI, United States. – The citizen platform Cuba Decide called to celebrate this December 10, International Human Rights Day, with the publication of a photo in which each person appears with a sign demanding the freedom of political prisoners (with the hashtag #LibertadParaLosPresosPolíticos).
“Take a photo in a well-known place in the city where you live with a sign that says: Freedom for political prisoners”, asked Cuba Decides on its social networks.
Likewise, he asked to publish the photo on social networks with the hashtag #LibertadParaLosPresosPolíticos and tag the profile of Cuba Decide (@cubadecide) or send it to the platform’s email ([email protected]).
In accordance with a recent report by the NGO Prisoners Defendersthe Cuban regime has imprisoned 1026 political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, who suffer judicial sentences or provisions to limit their liberty.
Of these 1,027 political prisoners, 34 are minors: 26 are serving sentences and eight are being criminally prosecuted, said the NGO based in Spain.
In September 2022, the Cuban government imprisoned another 36 people for political reasons, mostly related to the popular protests that took place on the island that month.
Prisoners Defenders believes that Cuba “is about to experience a final ideological, political and social collapse, added to the already present economic collapse,” and all of this would lead “inevitably to the fall of the regime, something much desired by the vast majority of Cubans. ”.
However, “if the democratic organizations and nations do not energetically take sides, the people will suffer a military repression that will cause them to regret numerous deaths, thousands of detainees, exodus, political prisoners, torture and eschatologically extreme violations of human rights,” he added.
