The controversial petition also comes after the National Electoral Council (CNE) ordered that the political rights of councilor Corredor be restored, for the alleged violation of the regime of benches and the decisions adopted by the party.
The ruling states that “The party’s punishment was disproportionate, which is why it brought the request to put an end to the controversy and return their voice and voting rights.
Thus, Councilman Corredor requested the resignation of the National Director of the Democratic CenterNubia Stella Martinez; the National Overseer, Mery Becerra Gomez; the Departmental Directors of the party in Antioquia, Horacio Arroyave and Rafael Molina; and the Coordinator of the Municipal Directorate of the Democratic Center in the city of Medellín, Gabriel Enrique Dib Diazgranados, so that they “assume responsibility for their undemocratic actions”.
“It is unpresentable that a party that claims to defend democracy, has in its directives people who clearly go against it and the laws, guarantees and rights of Medellinenses,” said the councilor.
Finally, Corredor assures that “with the position adopted by part of the caucus and not all of its members to vote for a certain candidate in the election of the Medellin Council’s board of directors in November 2022, also meant non-compliance with the guiding principle of gender equity established in Statutory Law 1909 of 2018, known as the Statute of Opposition”.
