SLP, Mexico-. The Cuban influencer Alexander Otaola called in his program Hello! Ota-Ola to a demonstration in front of the White House, in Washington, to demand the release of political prisoners in Cuba.

According to what was announced by Otaola, the caravan will take place on January 28, coinciding with the anniversary of José Martí’s birth and days after Donald Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States.

The YouTuber urged Cubans residing in that country to join the initiative to demand the immediate release of the political prisoners who remain in the regime’s prisons.

“It is not convenient for Havana that while they are murdering the political prisoners of July 11, we hold a gigantic rally in Lafayette Square with Donald Trump as the tenant of the White House,” Otaola said in his program.

With the demonstration, he noted, they will demand “actions and not words” against the dictatorship.

“Díaz-Canel, you want to continue killing innocents. You want to continue arresting young Cubans to keep their families quiet. So we are going to ask for the aid international so that there are actions, real actions,” he added.

After the historic protests of July 2021, hundreds of Cubans gathered they manifested in front of the White House to send an “SOS” for Cuba to President Joe Biden and denounce the human rights violations that occurred during the marches on the Island.

The protest began in Lafayette Square, located in front of the presidential residence, and continued with a march that ended in front of the Cuban embassy in Washington.

The NGO Prisoners Defenders increased the number of political prisoners to 1,117 in October, after new arrests occurred during peaceful protests.

As of October 31, 2024, the organization’s list contained a total of 1,117 political and conscientious prisoners suffering from judicial sentences or provisions limiting freedom by prosecutors.

The processes do not have any judicial supervision or due process or effective defense, in flagrant violation of international law.

In the last 12 months (November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024), Cuba’s list of political prisoners added a total of 134 new prisoners (an average of more than 11 new political prisoners each month).

Since the protests of July 1, 2021, Cuba has a total of 1,751 political prisoners present in its prisons.
