Deputies from four parties considered that the violent events of recent days in the country have a lot to do with political patronage and asked candidates to be careful when receiving financing for their campaigns.
Rafaela Alburquerque, from the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC); Soraya Suárez of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM); Fiordaliza Peguero, of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and Víctor Suárez of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), also agreed that the Central Electoral Board has to apply electoral laws on the issue of party financing.
Albuquerque, former president of the House of Representativess, argued that when a person collaborates with a candidate for elective office or with the leadership of a party, he understands that he acquires a right for life and is always “claiming what is his.”

Likewise, Peguero, spokeswoman for the PRD in the Lower House, called it unfortunate that political patronage has caused deaths within the governments that have directed the destinies of the country.
On his side, Víctor Suárez, representative of the PLD for Santiago, argued that elective positions should not be reached at any cost.
He added that there is political support that harms the family and sometimes the State institution itself.
