The Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) requested verification and transparency in the process against the confessed femicide of Laura, a second-year law student. This request is made due to the attempt of the aggressor’s lawyers to obtain her house arrest on the grounds that she has a terminal illness.
The rector of UMSA, Óscar Heredia, met with Laura’s family and the lawyer assigned to the case. “Laura’s father alerts us that the lawyers of the confessed femicide seek house arrest because she would have a terminal illness. Our lawyer tells us that this will continue to be tried during the process, so we remind the justice operators that there were perpetrators who presented false documents to regain their freedom and they have no right to do so because they ended a life and destroyed a family. We ask for verification and transparency,” she said.
UMSA appointed Lourdes Alba, part of the legal team of that institution, to support the process against Laura’s femicide. The lawyer announced that a study of the terminal illness will be requested through the Forensic Research Institute (IDIF). “We will verify that the documents presented are legal, but even though she has this disease, she has no right to take anyone’s life,” she added.
