According to the makers of the request, the promoters have not justified the reasons for the constitution of the metropolitan area.
Leaders of Eastern Antioquia asked Hernán Penagos Giraldo, national registrar, to suspend the process for the creation of the San Nicolás Valley Metropolitan Area (AMO).
The leaders ask that the call for the popular consultation be suspendeduntil “a opinion – favorable or unfavorable – is issued by the territorial planning commission of the chamber and senate.” Likewise, they ask that the constituent elements of the metropolitan area be fully justified.
According to the leaders who disagree, On the part of the promoters, the reasons for the constitution of the San Nicolás Valley Metropolitan Area have not been sufficiently justified.“, nor have they clearly shown that the necessary territorial characteristics exist for a metropolitan area to exist in the terms established by law.”

This new territorial scheme would be made up of nine municipalities, they are: El Carmen de Viboral, El Retiro, Rionegro, El Santuario, Guarne, San Vicente Ferrer, La Ceja and La Unión.
