Congresswoman Patricia Chirinos (Avanza País) asked to summon the Minister of Defense, Richard Tineoto the Defense Commission of the Parliament for the appointment of José Gavidia as alternate representative of Peru before the International Maritime Organization in the city of London, United Kingdom.
Through an official letter sent to the president of this commission, Joseph Williams (Country Advances), Chirinos Venegas said he felt “surprise and concern” before the recent appointment of the former Minister of Defense.
In that sense, the parliamentarian explained that said designation represents an irregular act, as she recalled that the Regulation of the Military Personnel of the Armed Forces on Diplomatic Mission states as a requirement “not have been appointed to a Diplomatic Mission previously”.
“Supreme Resolution No. 044-2014-DE/MGP stands out, which appoints the same man, Jorge Luis Gavidia Arrascue, to also perform the same functions as Alternate Permanent Representative of Peru before the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from February 1, 2014 to January 31, 2016, thus evidencing a clear violation of current legislation.and”, the document reads.
Next, the also former vice president of Congress said that Gavidia has a complaint for alleged assault on his wife and is currently investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged irregularities of having traveled with his daughters on a State ship. In addition, he recalled that the hiring of his daughter Verónica Gavidia Rodríguez in the National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) was questioned.
Faced with all of the above, the parliamentarian of Avanza País requested as “very urgent” that the current head of the Ministry of Defense be summoned to provide explanations after the appointment of Joseph Gavidia.
