They ask to resume the bilateral table for education

Judith Pena | March 17, 2023

Two weeks into the 2023 school calendar, the teacher leader of the Veragüenses Teachers Association (AMAVE), Humberto Montero, expressed on Radio Panama the importance of urgently resuming the bilateral table for education.

He indicated that this year the table has not been activated, so they demand that it be resumed with the presence of the vice minister of infrastructure and the director of human resources and the entire team that has to do with the conditions of the schools.

He specified that the creation of the vice-ministry of infrastructure has not been helpful, nor has it solved the existing problems in the country’s schools, he maintained that personnel should only locate suitable personnel in the Directorate of Maintenance, Engineering and Architecture, as the vice ministry.

He added that the Ministry of Education has become politicized and feared that the same would happen with the recently created Ministry for Women, “there are already comments, not from the leadership, but from many people, from ordinary Panamanians because it has become practically politicized our Ministry of Education,” he said.

In this second week, which ends today, March 17, he stated that the authorities through the Con Escuela program have not even taken the educational communities into account “because when they arrive at the school and the communities they only meet with the director of the school and they decide to paint or fix minority things”, there is a lack of communication, he said.
