After the Venezuelan health authorities confirmed two new cases of monkeypox (from Brazil and Peru), the National Academy of Medicine reiterated his proposal to declare a health alert in the country to combat new infections.
For the Academy, a declaration of a health emergency will allow sufficient resources to be mobilized so that the government and their institutions work with each otherinitiate actions and control the progress of the disease in the country.
Added to this proposal is the call to ensure transparency in handling information about the disease, strengthen monkeypox diagnostic capabilities, create active disease surveillance programs and ensure vaccination against monkeypox.
“These recommendations are still valid and non-governmental organizations, key elements in the effort to control the outbreak, are already beginning to be mobilized, so, in addition to any border surveillance strategya great effort must be made to identify cases of local transmission”, concludes the Academy.
